Is Engineering only a degree?

According to Wikipedia.org, Engineers are professionals who invent, design, analyze, build and test machines and materials to fulfill functional objectives.

According to Cambridge.org, Engineer, a person whose job is to design or build machines, engines, or electrical equipment using scientific principles.

Above I have given you two definitions of Engineer from two different websites and none of them even mentions anything about B.Tech., B.E. as a qualification for being an Engineer.

India may not be the most engineer-producing country but we have a fair share of the world population and Indians can be found in any country.

From our early childhood, parents seed an idea in our minds like Inception, an idea which will change our life’s course. And that idea is, in most cases, Engineering. We live through our final years of teenage in preparing for the entrance exams. Students who get admission in Engg. colleges realize after graduating that they never wanted to become Engg. and those who didn’t get admission pursue any other non-technical course like BSc. or BCA and they live there most of the life in despair that they couldn’t be an Engg. because they didn’t pursue BE or BTech and I just wanna tell you that you are absolutely wrong because Engineering is not about just any degree it's a branch of science. And the people who are considered as an Engg. by society due to their job description, I want to infer that Engineering and Science are much above all their mindsets.

The worst thing that I have encountered is many students are pursuing Engg just so because their friends are pursuing it. They don’t know what they wanna do with their life, in these cases, they do MBA because MBA means Money to them. I want to convey it to them that they should slow down things and introspect their life. I am not saying that they should not pursue Engg. but take Engg. for the sake that you want to, don’t be a compass without north direction.

A person is regarded as an Engineer only based on his work, not due to any rolled piece of paper. You can be an engineer without any degree if you want to and if you are truly determined towards your goals.

Be brave to stand for what you believe in, even if you stand alone.
